Original art made by independent artists

The show limits participation and uses a jury process, giving visitors a focused way to meet makers rather than browse a general marketplace. The organizer’s October artist gallery is a useful starting point if you want to seek out specific work. Paintings, sculpture, jewelry and other original pieces can look very different in the open air than in a photo, so leave time to see them in person.

The people behind the show, John and Lauri Maeder, are artists themselves. That emphasis shows in the event’s invitation to talk with the makers. Ask about methods, materials and how a work fits into an artist’s larger practice. If you are considering a purchase for home, ask about care and shipping before you leave the booth.

A Verde Valley day

The park sits in Old Town Cottonwood, close to galleries, restaurants and tasting rooms. The organizer also lists a scavenger hunt, free raffle and children’s craft area, with leashed pets welcome. Make an art-first pass through the booths, then use the surrounding town for a meal or break before returning to favorites.
